The only fibre system with the strength to go the distance.
At Gigabit speeds, everything changes. It used to be that 80% of all network traffic ran over the local horizontal network.
Then came the Internet. Intranets. Network PCs. Centralized routers and server farms. And suddenly, the 80/20 rule has flip-flopped. Now high-speed backbones are more important than ever.
AMP NETCONNECT multimode fibre cables contain the best optical fibre, and offer the best performance for laser-based and LED-based applications. The fibre has been engineered to support applications using the newest laser and VCSEL technologies (such as Gigabit Ethernet and Ten Gigabit Ethernet), while providing advanced performance for legacy applications such as FDDI and Token Ring. The 62.5/125µm fibre is guaranteed for transmission distances up to 300m in Gigabit Ethernet compliant systems at 850nm and up to 550m at 1300nm. The 50/125µm fibre is guaranteed for transmission distances up to 600m in Gigabit Ethernet compliant systems at both 850 and 1300nm. Both of the fibres can support Ten Gigabit Ethernet and can operate at significantly greater distances (greater than 2000m) at slower protocols such as Fast Ethernet. A new fibre type, 850nm Laser-optimized 50/125µm with a laser bandwidth of 2000MHz•km at 850nm, can support transmission distances up to 300m in Ten Gigabit Ethernet compliant systems at 850nm.
Most current transceivers use light-emitting diode (LED) technology, and they run out of steam at speeds greater than 622 Mbps. New transceiver technology--Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers, or VCSELs--has been introduced to bring gigabit capability to multimode fibre networks. VCSELs operate at short wavelength.
The future demands more. The performance requirements for large-building horizontal networks and intrabuilding backbone applications continue to grow. Tyco Electronics has the solution: AMP NETCONNECT Fibre Optic Systems
